This week’s post is one I scheduled on purpose. The reason? It’s the week of my 44th birthday! Yippee!!
So this week, your ingredient to create a blissful life is: CELEBRATE!!
How often do you stop and think about the great things you have in your life or the fabulous achievements of your life? If you’re anything like me, I have to really think about this more. I think it’s because I get such a thrill from the doing of things that the completion isn’t really the important part. I get positively jazzed when I’m creating a plan and I get a real kick out of making it happen, those are my happy places. But here’s the thing – when we don’t take the time to stop for a moment and appreciate and maybe even CELEBRATE these things, we can begin to forget the triumphs we’ve had.
So what would it take? I started a box earlier this year – it was meant to be a jar I could see through but I found a box I liked better – and I wrote down some of the accomplishments that have happened this year. Some of them may not seem like big deals to others and that’s ok. It’s been a year of upheaval and change in my world and sometimes, just getting going in the morning and getting done what needs to be done is a colossal achievement. I’m sure we’ve all had times like those. So I haven’t recorded those days in my box, but the big wins have been. My plan is to take New Years’ Day and go through them and celebrate each one.
This week? I celebrated with the people who are most important to me that I am still here and still growing and becoming. Very important things to me. Next year, we’ll raise a glass and celebrate the same things and perhaps there will be other things to celebrate too, but if this is all I have – a day to be glad that I’m still here and still growing and becoming, a day with people I love and who love me, the ability to eat, and drink, and be merry despite the things we could be un-merry about? I’ll take it and use up every bit of that and be grateful for every single moment! I’m SO blessed!
So what is your choice this week? Well, why not start by considering how you be? Do you take what you’re given and say thank you and wring it dry or do you wish you had more or different? Please don’t misinterpret. There’s nothing wrong with striving for more/different/better and that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about appreciating what you have right now while you strive for whatever you desire. I’m talking about taking a moment to let the people you love know how much they mean to you. I’m talking about living in the moment and enjoying what is right in front of you to be enjoyed!
You really don’t have to do that. I know a lot of people who don’t, in fact I’m pretty sure I’ve been one of them at certain times. So there’s your choice. Live your life now or live in your past or for a future that may never come. We’ve all heard it said a million times in a million different ways. We only have now. So eat some cake, have a drink, sing and laugh and celebrate how blessed you are! Or don’t…
What do you choose?
